2024 Summer Exploration Series
A Fresh Look at the Ten Commandments: Growing a Culture of Grace

This summer, we will examine the Ten Commandments with fresh eyes, examining how they are relevant to our time and what they can show us about the grace at the center of our lives together.

Lutherans look for the promises embedded in the Ten Commandments. We also say that the Ten Commandments act like mirrors and containers. Mirrors show us the truth about ourselves, and containers give us healthy boundaries.

As we look toward the program year's focus of "Leadership in a Culture of Grace," the Ten Commandments will help us establish what a culture of grace means and prepare us to dig deeper into our communal vocation as disciples of Jesus in this time and place.

"The cinema event of the decade." That’s how a ten-part series loosely based on the Ten Commandments was hailed upon its first screenings across the globe. The famed director said it this way, "Everyone seems to accept the Ten Commandments as a kind of moral basis, and everyone breaks them daily. Just the attempt to respect them is already a major achievement. If I had to formulate the message of my Decalogue, I'd say, Live carefully, with your eyes open, and try not to cause pain.”
Join us for a unique opportunity to view the films and engage in dialogue with local community rabbis and Westwood's Lutheran pastors. This interfaith venture is sponsored by Adath Jeshurun, Bet Shalom Congregation, Hineni (the adult learning center of St. Paul’s Jewish community), and Westwood Lutheran Church.

7:00 pm - Film screening
8:00 pm - Clergy response
