Westwood Lutheran Church will host theologian, author, and professor Dr. Reggie Williams for “Learning from Dietrich Bonhoeffer about Church and Politics.”
Williams is Associate Professor of Black Theology and African American Studies at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and author of Bonhoeffer’s Black Jesus: Harlem Renaissance Theology and an Ethic of Resistance. The book was named a 2015 Outstanding Academic Title by Choice. His acclaimed book examines the impact of Bonhoeffer’s exposure to theology and Black religious life during the Harlem Renaissance on the German theologian, who was executed by the Nazis in 1945 for his resistance.
Williams’ research interests include Black theology, Black studies, Dietrich Bonhoeffer studies, and Christian ethics. He serves on the board of the English Language Section of the International Dietrich Bonhoeffer Society and is a former board member of the Society for the Study of Black Religion and the Society of Christian Ethics.
