CHILD WELL-BEING
Our commitment to children’s well-being spans generations. Westwood is dedicated to nurturing the next generation. Children are integral to our church life. We strive to create spaces where they are fully included, empowered, and supported to grow in faith and community.
WESTWOOD'S INVOLVEMENT
In 1985, Westwood established the Westwood Early Childhood Center (WECC). It has been a rich and important part of our community. In addition, Westwood was a catalyst for early funding and support of Rise Early Learning Center. Rise Early is unique in its mission and location. Rise Early Learning Center is a high-quality early childcare and education center co-located in an affordable housing complex with wraparound services in St. Louis Park, MN.
Today, we live out this value through:
-
Innovative faith formation programs for children, youth, and families as part of our CYF Ministry.
-
Special Worship opportunities, providing leadership for children and youth as important figures within our congregation.
-
Teaching and leading annual events like Vacation Bible School (VBS), service and youth trips, and summer camps at Wapo.
-
Supporting community partners, including STEP (St. Louis Park Emergency Program) and Every Meal, which address food insecurity among school-aged children.
-
Providing over 50,000 meals that are packed by our congregation (children included) to feed and nourish orphaned children in the community around Arusha Road Lutheran Church in Dodoma, Tanzania (a global community partner).
-
Connecting with our local school district and partnering with Aquila Elementary on various projects and the overall well-being of kids, regardless of faith background.
