Palm Sunday

Sunday, April 5, 2020

We encourage you to gather whatever greenery, plants, construction paper you have in your home as you tune into the Palm Sunday service online.

Westwood U

Our Westwood U speaker this Sunday is Dr. Darrell Jodock, who will wrap up our Lenten series “Who Am I? Deepening Our Conversations About Race.” We are grateful to Dr. Jodock for helping us frame this series theologically as we explored housing and education in our communities through the lens of race.

Maundy Thursday, April 9, 2020 - LIVE at 7 PM!

As is our tradition, we continue to collaborate with Redeemer Lutheran Church for our Maundy Thursday service, and welcome collaboration this year from Salem Lutheran (North Minneapolis) and Augsburg University. We encourage you to sit at your table, and have a bowl of water and towel ready.

Some tech details:

  • If you are having technical difficulties, feel free to watch the Backup pre-recorded Maunday Thursday service below, (same liturgy and music).

  • Participants will be muted, there will be a bulletin online so you can sing and join in the liturgy in your own home.

  • Click “join with computer audio” to hear the service.

  • If you’d like to join by phone to hear the service instead of watching it, you can call 312-626-6799 and enter Meeting ID 492 877 882 (you don’t need a participant ID)

Good Friday, April 10, 2020

Our Holy Week journey will continue with a pre-recorded Good Friday service. Our worship will include the reading of the Passion narrative in seven parts, hymns, organ/piano pieces, and a sermon as we reflect on this defining event of our faith. This worship service features musical responses interspersed throughout the Passion narrative. You are invited to light seven candles at home and, during each musical response, you are invited to extinguish a candle, following the tradition of Tenebrae (service of increasing darkness).

Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020

Amidst the pain of our current reality, the message of Easter hope is one we desperately need!  This festival worship will include pre-recorded preaching and liturgy, and pre-recorded musical treats by our choir, trumpets, Elsa, and the traditional Postlude on the organ of Widor’s Toccata.

Holy Communion will be included

Our Easter service will also include the sacrament of Holy Communion in which we together will experience the grace of God as we take the bread and wine, the body and blood of Jesus, as we also hear and taste that these gifts are given and shed FOR YOU.  Here are the instructions.  Please make sure to have bread and either wine or grape juice available.  When we get to this portion of the service you have 3 options.

If you are with a group or another person, share the elements with each other as directed in the service.

First, the bread with the words “This is the body of Christ given for you”.

Next, share the wine/grape juice with the words “The blood of Christ shed for you”.

(You may dip the bread in the cup or each take a sip)

If you are alone, consider watching the service at the same time as a friend and at the time of Communion, you could call the other person and follow the instructions in #1, speaking the words to each other.

If neither 1 or 2 works for you, Pastor Jason will invite you to take the bread as he declares to you “This is the Body of Christ given for you” and then the wine/grape juice as he says “The blood of Christ shed for you”.

While this is unusual for us to receive Holy Communion in this way, we trust that in these unusual times, as we are gathered in this way, that God’s Spirit will nourish us with the gift of God’s promise.

Service will be available online Friday morning.
